INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY
In individual therapy many times the main vehicle for change is the relationship formed between the
patient and the therapist. This is the reason why individual therapy is often longer than other
forms of therapies. As the client grows to trust the therapist and the therapist to understand the
client, it becomes possible for the two to work together to make long-lasting changes in the
client’s emotional habits and self-image.
Four Main Directions of Individual Therapy
1. Reduce or eliminate a specific symptom, such as panic attacks, depression, eating disorders,
anxiety or addictive behavior.
2. Develop. a better understanding of one’s self.
3. Learn new life skills.
4. Provide emotional support in a time of need.
